Worst ... exam ... ever ...

With A-Level results out today and showing massive pass rates once again (see here), it's a good time for the Crow to reflect on his biggest mistake in an exam.

General Studies A-level 1989, the essay question was to discuss "the evolution of western film".

Being a bit of a film buff, the Crow tore into this subject, providing details of how Cowboy and Indian films had changed since the days of silent movies. Initially the films had been about the opportunity the new frontier had offered.

However as history had been more reflective, the era was looked at less romantically, and so the beautifully shot Westerns of John Ford had given way to the Sergio Leone era of showing a much more bloody and brutal way of life.

Discussing this with fellow students after the exam, they were gobsmacked. See the question asked about "western movies" (lower case) as in movies from the western world (ie American and British films), not "Western movies" (upper case) as in movies about the Wild West. Ooops!

I still managed a "C" grade in this thankfully!
