The nightmare is over ... for now ...

At last! Big Brother 7 is over!

Tourettes Syndrome sufferer Pete was this year's winner. Now perhaps the Crow can get Mrs Crow's attention once again for an hour a day. Although I fear she has been taking notes from Big Brother's vacuous and spoiled model Nikki ...

Oh my God, it's so unfair! I'm a really annoying woman with a tenuous reason to be famous, get Max Clifford as my publicist right now!

However people are already asking will it be back for an 8th series? Let's face it when TV bosses are still clamouring to put new episodes of Last of the Summer Wine together, despite the fact that half the cast are dead, you just know they'll be flogging the dead horse which will be Big Brother 8 in 2007.

As Pete would say, "wankers" ...

As mistakes go …

This probably has to be one of the worst since Neville Chamberlain promised “peace in our time” ...

In 2002, to celebrate the contribution of black actor James Earl Jones (most famous for providing the voice of Darth Vader) towards civil rights, he was presented with a plaque.

However the name on the plaque was not his, but due to a typographical error, it read as "Thank you James Earl Ray for keeping the dream alive".

James Earl Ray was the man responsible for assassinating Martin Luther King in 1968. As mistakes go, it’s hard to think of a worst one!

Worst ... exam ... ever ...

With A-Level results out today and showing massive pass rates once again (see here), it's a good time for the Crow to reflect on his biggest mistake in an exam.

General Studies A-level 1989, the essay question was to discuss "the evolution of western film".

Being a bit of a film buff, the Crow tore into this subject, providing details of how Cowboy and Indian films had changed since the days of silent movies. Initially the films had been about the opportunity the new frontier had offered.

However as history had been more reflective, the era was looked at less romantically, and so the beautifully shot Westerns of John Ford had given way to the Sergio Leone era of showing a much more bloody and brutal way of life.

Discussing this with fellow students after the exam, they were gobsmacked. See the question asked about "western movies" (lower case) as in movies from the western world (ie American and British films), not "Western movies" (upper case) as in movies about the Wild West. Ooops!

I still managed a "C" grade in this thankfully!

Official advice to A-level students ...

You just cannot make up stuff like this ...

Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4797759.stm

An English exam board has removed a cartoon "hangman's noose" from an online A-level results page following a complaint from an anti-suicide charity.

Edexcel had featured the doodle - supposedly drawn by someone playing the word game hangman - on a trial version of a page, being used by 200 students.

But the charity Papyrus warned that this was an "unfortunate oversight" at a time of high stress.
